12 Years a Slave

Solomon Northup is a happy patriarch and success violinist in free-slavery Network.

One day, he received a performance suggestion and was paid as allowance. After drinking a lot, he was kidnapped by illegal slave merchant and sold to William who is first master in Louisiana. He made effort to prove that he was not slave, but harsh violence and brainwashing made him abandon. Moreover, he met the crucial moment for fighting with his supervisor. Running time-2hours 10mins was felt very short. This movie didn’t have a special technique but invade our heart for slave’s pathetic and realistic expression. I was also running to freedom and justice.
After viewing this one, the most responsive thing is emotion. Melancholy about humans treated as brute, antipathy for people who take away other’s freedom for their profits! Struggling to his freedom is impressed like oxygen in a high mountain. He said, “I don’t want to survive, I want to live”. The life is precious for existing a freedom. If ‘Survive’ is a subsistence, ‘Live’ is a human life. Whether person or country, worth of freedom is unlimited. Although a slavery was abolished legally, a mass that disseizes noble other’s freedom also exists. Possibly, we can be that mass. When all together cooperate as one, the true justice and equality will be attained.
