Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles(1994)

Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles is a romantic horror movie released in 1994. It is a film adaption for the novel The Vampire Chronicles (1976). The biggest selling point of this film is no doubt its two super stars—Tom Cruise and Brad Pitter. Although there are numerous vampire films these years, such as Twilight series which have ultra high box office, I still consider this film as the best vampire film so far.

The story began in San Francisco, a journalist met a man Louis (acted by Brad Pitter) who depicted himself as a vampire.  During the interview, Louis told the journalist about his 200-year fantastic story. Louis used be a plantation owner in south of New Orleans in 1791. Since his wife and child died, he lost his passion for live in the world. An vampire named Lestat (acted by Tom Cruise )

spotted him and turned Louis into a vampire because he wanted Louis to company with him. After that, another member join with them. This little girl named Claudia (acted by Kirsten Dunst ) who was transfer by Louis, in order to save her life. However, this three member group began to collapse because Claudia detest Lestat who want to control this group, and she cheated Lestat to drink dead body’s blood and weaken him. After that she ran with Louis to Paris. Later, Claudia was burn in the sun and turn into ash by a vampire organization. Louis was so sad , and began to travel around the world for decades. In 1988, he went back to his hometown New Orleans and met Lestat.  Lestat asks him to join him again, but Louis rejected. In the end of the interview, the journalist shocked by this statement , and he asked Louis to make him become a vampire too, but Louis rejected him and vanished. In the last scene of the film, this journalist drove the car and play the record of the interview in his cassette player. In that moment, Lestat jumped on his car and drank all of his blood, and he asked this dying journalist whether like to join with him, just like he used to asked Louis.

I like this film so much and watch it for many times. Although the vampires in this film seem more weak than many other vampire film, it makes me feel more original and classical. I was touched by the scene that Louis said he finally saw the sun rise after 200 years since he became a vampire. It was in a movie theater，when he saw the sun rise in the screen, his had tears in his eyes. Unlike any other vampire drama or movies which sunlight seems no matter to vampire today, the sun in this film just like a beautiful killer to vampire and also contains many memories of their life as a human. Also, the main character Louis seems still has humanity in the film, he drink little animal’s blood instead of kill people. I would like to give this film 5 Stars !
